#TheDollEvolves, MLP

I was excited about the new Barbie bodies. The articulation looked pretty basic, but the new molds were exciting enough for that not to matter. I just wouldn’t buy as many and I’d avoid the ones with preposed arms.

Then I found out that Mattel had stopped doing click-knees years ago, so the new dolls can only sit like baby dolls. Arrrgh.

I have gotten to a point in my collecting where I have to be choosy-er and ask “Yeah, but what will I DO with it?” Less-articulated dolls have been recieving upgrades of either MtM bodies or Fashionistas. These new Barbies are a step forward in shapes and skintones but a step backwards for articulation.

Petite and Tall? I’d buy my favorites from the line with at least click-knees. I am less interessted in them than Curvy because you can already get dolls taller and shorter than a standard Barbie.

More articulated versions won’t either won’t happen or won’t happen without people buying these ones. I originally said I wouldn’t be buying them for anything other than holiday donations, but…I wonder….is there is any easy way to articulate a Curvy?

Could you cut the joints off an articulated figure, cut the corosponding areas off the Curvy and graft the joints on to the Curvy? If Barbie-sized joints are too small, maybe a male figure?

….Not that they are in stock in the local stores yet, though.

Walmart had the ribbon head-band MLP brushables in, just no Starlight Glimmer. I only saw ONE SG from the ribbon line before it. It’s weird.
I have managed to score more or less all the Pinky-themed minis I wanted, though 😀 (Just the Cakes and Maud, really.)

…Oh yeah! The MLP stuff they displayed at Toy Fair!
I’ll probably partake of some of the Nightmare Night minis. The Guardians of Harmony…eee…I like the idea of Big Spike, but he’s kind of pricey. I like the little armored Spike, but he is only sold with Chrysalis-On-Wheels. The toys I am REALLY interessted? The pearly brushables.
I think the pearly finish looks pretty and sets the Mane Six apart from their other releases. It’s such a basic thing, something the 80’s toys did and the first G3s kind of had as a default. That, and they did the Crystal Empire thing way back…it’s weird that they are only doing pearly ponies now.

(AND! The line has a bunch of new characters! *_* Woo!)

Upcomming MLP, Monster High Glue Damage

So, it looks like maybe Pinkie is getting a blindbag-sized collection themed around her, the way Applejack did. Pinkie is a “middle tier” pony for me, so I’ll probably skip most of the figures that are Pinkie on her own. Totally want any that are Pie or Cake family related, though.

Snow Globe Applejack. YES. She will join the AJ collection. Nice to see they aren’t sticking with adding wings to Flower Wishes/Daisy. I think AJ might be the last Water Cuties toy I buy, unless they do a stallion or an Apple family member.

The glue that dripped from my Gloom Beach Jackson heavily damaged his face. I wasn’t going to bother originally but I did call Mattel and let them know about it. They sent me a voucher for a new doll and I recieved it today. The man I talked to was really nice and apologetic about what happened but, guys…please….just stop putting the glue in. Or find out what kind of glue MGAE and Hasbro use and buy that.
When I bought the doll, I bought him because I was worried there would never be another Jackson made. I think if that had happened, I’d be a lot more bothered by the damage. I’ve put the head aside and started modifying the body for another doll. I’m trying not to wonder if the GB doll had gone up in value, since he was already damaged. :/

New Toys At Walmart! Hooray!, Dream, DGRequiem Sizes

YASSS. One of the local Walmart is finally getting new stuff in. Most of the new stuff. (The other one seems to still be trying to sell off the old stock to make room)

Gooliope is HUGE. I don’t know, I just pictured her smaller. And I pictured the Frightmares a bit larger.

The new Bratz were in. I want some of the clothing sets but they are $10 CAD and I think the shoes might be even bigger than the original ones. I…don’t think I have a use for shoes that large. If they were more like the ones before the hiatus, I could use them as almost-in-scale shoe-feet for bigger dolls. Maybe I could get them on sale for a few bucks less? I want that stripey one!

The Disney Descendants were there. Didn’t look really closely. I should be trying to evaluate them on their own merits, rather than a source of sweet, sweet bodies.

My Little Pony. They had the new EQG dolls, which I barely looked at because they also had the Friendship is Magic Collection.
(That’s a super generic real name for the Apple family-centric series. They should have called it “Family is Magic”)

A lot of the selection was picked over but they did have the Apple Bloom and Babs set, The SECS6000, the juice stand and the barn. I want the barn but it’s a lot more expensive and I still have to figure out where I would store it. Did grab the juice stand and AB with Babs. Sweetie…Babs. I don’t get it. Why would they have to rename the character “Sweetie Babs” for the toy? “Babs Seed” is unusual enough to be copyrighted. Whatever, she’s still adorable as hell, whatever Hasbro calls her.

I had a doll related dream a week or so ago. We were cleaning up the house for a move and Is sorting junk I hadn’t seen in years.
Some of the things I found in the dream were:
* A couple 1 1/2″ dolls. One was Anne from Akage no Anne, that had a button in back that played music. Cha Cha from Akazukin Chacha. And similarly sized doll with multiple heads.
* A watermelon-headed Quint-type doll with a button in back to make the head light up.
* A bunch of BigEye Skippers.

Analysis: I have been trying to sort through my junk and the idea of finding treasures while cleaning or shopping in a thrift store is a common theme in my dreams. Finding something you forgot you had is like thrifting except FOR FREE! 😀 I have also been looking at sites with vintage Japanese dolls, including one that had an Akazukin Chacha doll. I watched Akage no Anne dubbed in French as a kid and I think the watermelon child may have been inspired by Steven Universe. I also responded to a most on Tumblr about the BigEye Skippers recently and how I had one when I was little. (Must finish that reroot…)

Hadn’t noticed before but DGRequiem had to switch over to “code words” for their doll patterns to avoid running afoul of Mattel. The boy sizes are “Large” for Ken, “Medium” for EAH and “Slimline” for MH. Barbie is a “Medium Fashion Doll”, Blythe is “Petite” and MH/EAH girls are “Petite Slimline”.

Wave 13 BBs are here! Ginger Breadhouse is (probably) not a cookie, Forest Pixies

Woo! So, the local stores are starting to get the Wave 13 BBs in. Thanks to the little clear windows, I have the ones I wanted.
What was weird is that I had heard the solid colored ones were chase figures but I had no trouble getting them at all. They seem to just be regular figures!

The sad thing was that there were, like, 4 empty bags laying around. Somebody is stealing them again :<

I’ve mentioned the complaints about EAH not having enough non-white characters in it and Willow being made out of wood. I came across a post that was upset that people are saying Ginger Breadhouse is a cookie, insted of an actual human being with darker skin. I didn’t see the post it was refering to, but I wonder if it might be because the author was confused on whose kid Ginger is? Like, maybe they think she’s the Gingerbread Man’s daughter insted of the (human) witch’s from Hanzel and Gretel? That’s what I thought at first, so I could see the mistake being made.

I’d like to see this girl get a doll. Gauzy fabric, golden jewelery, big flower in her hair ❤ If they do, I hope I like the results. They don’t always translate the cartoon look to dolls well.
My money is on her being Aladdin’s daughter. She could totally be Scheherazade’s child, but it will depend on if Mattel wants to go with a character that kidlets probably haven’t heard of yet.

The Forest Pixies are so cute! I hate that they will be un-articulated but…rebody? I like the names “Featherly” and “Harelow ” a lot but Deerla is the one with the best chance of joining my collection.

Ever After High, Mermaid Toralei, Shopettes, Too Many Clear MLP BBs

A photo was posted of an Ever After High Doll who is darker than Willow, with green eyes, long dark brown hair and a mix of gold and silver accesories. Most bets were that it was Amber Mides and some even thought it was a photoshopped photo, rather than a legit preview.
Turns out it’s Justine Dancer, daughter of (one of) The Twelve Dancing Princesses. I….would not have guessed that one. She’s obviously a princess but nothing about her really suggests the dancing part to me. There have been complaints that the only really dark skinned EAH doll was made out of wood so I think a lot of people will be happy to see a doll put out that is actually representing a dark skinned human being.

Farrah is pretty obvious but Piper is another one that I probably wouldn’t have guessed if they hadn’t said so. She’s music themed but doesn’t seem to relate back to the story much. Though, cripes, a town rips off a guy, so he abducts their kids. Nice choice there, Mattel.

Great Scarrier Reef Toralei. Not just a cat but a lionfish mermaid too. Shiiit…I’m trying to cut back but I kind of want her. But do I REALLY want her, or an I just in love with the idea? How perfect is it that she’s a lionfish, a venomous, predator fish that has been causing problems since they made their way to the Atlantic?

Shopkins aren’t really a big deal here. I see the playsets around sometimes and I got a couple blind figures from a grocery store that was the only place I saw the singles. The biggest selection was at a Seen On TV place that had playsets, singles, plush toys and backpacks, all kind of over priced.
Apprently, they are expanding to mini dolls with the Shopettes line. Probably a pass for me but I am curious to see better photos.

Still no sign of the new MLP stuff ’round these here parts. Wave 13 has a lot of clear figures that are similar to previous released but Wave 14 seems to have even more.

As jazzed as I was about getting ALL THE STALLIONS in the beginning, Royal Riff is just a glitterless, flipped version of the Wave 4 one. Apart from the solid one, we have gotten him clear and with glitter, clear with painted hair, clear with painted hair and glitter and, now, clear with no painted hair and no glitter. That’s all combinations exhausted and a lot of similar figures created. Maybe move on to glow-in-the-dark (it’s been a while!) or just give him a brushable?

Of the clear ones, I think I’ll go for Plumsweet, MAYBE Lucky Clover and Sugar Cane. Apart from that, it will be all about the solid ones for me. The same with Wave 13 when it finally gets here. The gimmick is over used.

(Not doll related, but congratulations, Americans who can now marry who they choose! You can’t see when you read this blog but when you log on to WordPress to post, there is a rainbow banner around the top of the window in celebration. ❤ )

G2 Eye Crystals, Organizing, SDCC Chicken Pinkie, BaB, Grubbies!, Haute Doll July/August 2015

Found a (full size!) G2 Sundance at Value Village. She’s in pretty good condition, just needs new eye gems. So, I bought some SS12 sized crystals, waited for them arrive and tried to put them in. THEY DON’T FIT. :< They are too large for the holes. Now I have to wait for smaller ones to get here. Fuuuuu…I wanted to complete the project. I think SS10 will fit and, if not, I will also have SS8. I don’t need many, so they aren’t really expensive, it’s just annoying.

I picked up little set of plastic drawers to sit on my desk. They are actually a little cart but they work fine without the wheels added. I had planned to put mini food making stuff in the bottom, paints and glues in the middle and sewing items in the top. Errr…turns out I have a lot more paint and glue than I thought. The sewing stuff will have to stay where it is.
It will be nice having supplies more organized. A lot of it was spread out among a bunch of containers or shoved or in a drawer. Not having all sorts of little things in the drawer to dig through will let me find things faster.

SDCC is going to have an exclusive Chicken Pinkie Pie this year! It’s a cute idea and it saves them from having to mix new plastic colors or make a new mold. ❤

The little grey pegasus that’s popular with a huge chunk of the adult fanbase is getting a Build A Bear toy. I don’t like that they use shimmery fabric for the wings but I am considering trying to get one when they come out. Whatever you want to call her, she’s really cute. ❤

Grubbies! is CheshireTiffy’s new group for before and after photos of thrifted dolls. It came up in one of her Tumblr posts that there didn’t seem to be something like that on Flickr already.

As I wrote this, my latest digital copy of Haute Doll arrived. Too tired to read the whole thing now, but someone on one of the confession Tumblrs figures there will be a lot of pro-recast people angry about the article they published on recasts. Oh yeah, it’s totally comming.

The author, Kaitlyn Long, is VERY anti-recast and says “Any supporters of this illegal activity should not feel opressed, as they are the wrongdoers. A doll is a luxury item and there is absolutely no acceptable reason to purchase a recast. Finances, health, and age are not valid excuses to buy contraband and they never will be.” Some pro-recast people try to frame anti-recast people as being classist and against poorer people having nice things, so I think that is the bit that will spawn the most posts.

MLP, Sailor Moon Rement, SSC Knock-Off, BE Goths, Miniature Food, Romantickle Jungle

Bleh. The stores are pretty dry when it comes to new MLP right now. TRU had a poster, though Applejack was missing from it :< C’mon, Hasbro! I get that Rainbow Dash, Twilight and Pinkie are your “main three” or that you sometimes leave out Rarity and AJ. But JUST AJ? Double :<

Sailor Senshi no Nichijou Re-ment set photos are out! I don’t find them that exciting but they are a nice, solid set of props. They would be PARTICULARLY good in photos if you paired them with some dolls of the characters.

Huh! Darice made Dress Me dolls and there were a lot of Strawberry Shortcake wannabes produced but I didn’t know Darice did a SSC-like Dress Me doll. Neat that they actually scented it!

Back in 2003, I REALLY wanted the Bleeding Edge Goth fashion dolls. Goth fashion, colored hair… they were amazing to me. Well, I couldn’t get them, due to not being able to order online, but that may not be a bad thing. Yeah, I guess they melt and discolor.

I mean, I guess the storage method could have been at fault but it wouldn’t be the first time a doll/toy has degraded over time. Regrind spots on legs, where some brands reused plastic. Green spots on Darci arms from the inside wires. The glue issue with MH and other Mattel dolls. Hell, the hair on the Strawberry Shortcake dolls they made in 2003 can become so brittle it BREAKS OFF AT THE SCALP. Yikes.

I am not into Fashion Royalty so I had no idea that they had switched switched plastics for the body at one point, only to have fans complain the better quality plastic “felt cheap”. So FR put a metal hex nut inside to weight it. OMG! XD

I was at the library when I spied Miniature Food Masterclass by Angie Scarr on the shelf. Some of it is probably going to be beyond my skill but I can totally try some of the less complicated stuff. Olivies are do-able and I wanna try the sliced banana cane and satsumas. Something that puts me off some of the ideas, though, is that they use real food items like semolina in them. I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t worry so much. Maybe keeping them bagged up when they aren’t in use, along with any varnish, would be enough to keep them in good condition?

Angie Scarr’s site sells the food premade, as well as premade canes. She also has a YouTube account with video tutorials.

Hmm…I should probably grab up some leaves, now that it’s Spring, and make my own custom molds for putting veins on things.

I’m not really a fan of Pooyan’s cat and bunny dolls but check out this frog woman! She has such a sweet face ❤ The kimono makes the body look a bit larger, but you can see a white version in lingerie here.
