My Bingo Answers

I posted my completed bingo cards on Tumblr, but here is the text version of what I checked off.

General Edition
* Other Countries: I have dolls from Japan, Korea and China.
* Anthro: I. Love. Anthros. Pinkie Cooper, Hujoo Freya, Petworks Nikki, Peteena, Petworks Kuma Bolo and Usaggie, Coco Tribe, Luts Zuzu Delf, the MH animal-people…it’s best to end list now but I have at least one doll from each of those.
* Period Dress: I keep starting and never finishing (loosely?) historical costumes. I do have a Madame Alexander outfit from a Little Women doll, though, and I had a southern belle outfit that I gave away when I was 12ish. :<
* Older Than Me: Peteena, my G1 Strawberry Shortcakes, most of the G1 MLP, the Davtex doll I found, a Maddie Mod, vintage knock-off Skipper, legit vintage Skooter and Live Action Skipper, my Sindys, Cover Girl Darci…might have missed one or two.
* Childhood Dolls Left: A few survived! Babysitter Skipper, Maxie, Pony Bride, 92’ Strawberry Shortcake, Blueberry Muffin and Lime Chiffon. Conditions were…mixed.

Multiples of a Character: I have a few Maxies, a few Skippers, the Mane cast of MLP, multiple generations of a few SSC characters, MH Catty Noir, Pullip, Licca, Liccas’s parents, Koby, Eitan and Jade of the Bratz.
* Relationships: Haven’t really thought much on dolly relationships since my heavy Bratz days. One Koby was dating an Eitan, the other was interessted in Dana.
More recent dolls? Licca’s parents and grand parents are, of course, couples. One of my Pullips has a Taeyang boyfriend. Maybe more couples will pop up, as I finish projects.
* Celeb. Dolls: I have an Uno Kanda doll :3 I actually don’t know a lot about her, I got the doll because it was inexpensive, articulated and had a beautiful face print.
* Preorders: My Petworks dolls were all pre-orders. The resin BJDs, I guess? Since they weren’t in hand at the time?

* Dolls Aged 30+: Licca’s parents, grandmothers and grandfather are all 30+. Plus, I have the Happy Family Grandma head on a regular Barbie body.
* Related: THREE GENERATION OF LICCA, BABY! Grandparents, parents, Licca and the siblings. I have 3 of the 3 MH Wolf siblings. My multiple Bratz Kobys were related, as where the Eitans.
* Furniture: A fair amount, between what I’ve bought and what I have made. I am trying to do more MAKING, lately. (*COUGH*MyFroggyStuff*COUGH*

* 14+ Joints: Volks Dollfie 27cm and three piece Obitsus. ‘Nuff said.
* Bought For Clothing: I don’t do often because I usually don’t see good enough deals to justify getting a doll and getting rid of the doll it’self. I did mercilessly buy and strip the cheaper High School Musical dolls, though. And there was a Kari Mitchell doll who hit the donation bag as soon as I got home.
* NRFB: The first MH Catty Noir and a Sega Kohran Li from Sakura Wars are permenantly chilling in their boxes.
* Buying Miniatures: A decent collection :3 I am making a better effort to sort my props by type (hello Rainbow Loom boxes!) and keep a running catalog of what I have, to avoid buying things identical to what I already have. (NO. MORE. WINE BOTTLES.) I really like Re-Ment and Orcara (Art of Wine, Fruits and Cooking with Master as full sets! Yay!) but I keep my eye out for things that aren’t being sold specifically for dolls but work. Like “3D cabochons”. I am also trying to MAKE more things.
* Gotten Someone Else To Join: Yup! She’s not really into dolls anymore but a regular friend did end up a dolly friend for a bit 😀

* 100+ Dolls?: Uh, yes. I keep a catalog of which dolls I have and population numbers. I have, indeed, passed 100 and made Adult Choices ™ to prune a bit.
* Anime-Style: Only most of them :3 I like a “cute adult” type look and anime-style dolls fit the bill.
* Wings: Rochelle, the Gargoyle CAM and some WIP fairies.
* Blogging: Tumblr and this main WordPress 😀

Creative Edition
* Rerooting: Heck yah, I have rooted a doll! I have rooted quite a few. I have never sold a reroot, though, because I worry that it’s not up to snuff. I use the knot method so, while there is no glue in the head, there are a lot of knots. I HAVE done the locked-loop method, but it takes me a ridiculous amount of time and I keep dropping loops. :<
* Head Shrinking: I have shrunk a number of test heads. I have a couple that I plan to try at some point in the future.
* Sculpting from Scratch: I have actually tried to sculpt a doll twice. One was suposed to be a 1/6 version of the Super Dollfie body and one was when I never thought I’d be able to buy a Blythe or Licca. Both were sculpted based on measurements to be about the right size. I had problems making the ball-joints for the tiny SD and the Licca-size doll’s torso ended up broken. Both ended up in the trash. I’ll try again some day, though.

* Tatoos: I gave an action figure a bunch of them with a dollar store fake tattoo sheet. When I was just starting customizing, I painted a few directly on a Barbie and sealed them with clear nailpolish that later went gooey -_-
* Wigs: I have made wigs with hot glue in the past and yarn and I am messing around with latex mold maker and mohair now. It all goes south at the part. I can’t seem to do it without the latex making it look all gross. (I also tried hard cap wig making but had a similar problem, just with epoxy glue on my hands)
* Rooted Lashes: I have rooted lashes on a few dolls :3 I like to use nylon because it’s usually stiffer than saran.
* Hair Transplant: Back when I couldn’t get new doll hair, I did try using some hair off a doll with a messsed up face. The hair wasn’t in very good condition, though, so it wasn’t that great. Lately, I have harvested nylon from baited MLP to fill in bangs for others, since you can’t buy exact matches,
* Scars/Injuries/Gore Mods: When I first started, I customized a doll store doll with scars. I made them LAVENDER. I was going for that faded purple-y look some older scars have.

*Shoes: I have made a few pairs of sandals (foam or cork), slippers (foam and fleece) and boots out of felt. Attempts at doing legit looking boots or flats have failed, so far.
* Eyes: I have made doll eyes using the DIY kits and I made Animetic-style eyes using polymer clay and Blythe chips.
* I have made food items with polymer clay or Model Magic. Books, present boxes, a spear…um…I made an attempt at sculpting a sewing machine. I unearthed a poorly-made Game Boy from back when I collected Bratz 😀

* Mod for Posing: I shaved the back of someone’s knee…but whose what it? I have also taken apart a couple doll parts to unstick a moving part.
* Sock Clothing: I have been buying up dollar store socks to make wee sweaters, lately. I need to get more of them finished…
* Adding/Removing Body Parts: I have a partially finished Rin Tezuka doll. Rin doesn’t have lower arms, so the arms had to be modified and rounded off.
* Repainting I have repainted dolls. I stopped because I felt like they never turned out right (which is the oposite of what you do to get better….)

* Resculpting Faces: I have a partially finished fantasy Dwarf doll whose face is entirely resculpted and a shrunken My Scene head with the beginnings of a muzzle.
* Making Furniture: I have made a bunch of chairs, couches, some flower boxes, a bed (that broke :<), a bench, eeee…probably other things.
* Natural Fiber: I have rerooted with mohair a few times :3 Probably the only natural fiber I’ll try, apart from felted wool dreadlocks (Ugh! They take so long!)
* Big Head to Bigger Body: My rerooted Ddung head is on a Moxie Girlz body, instead of her original tiny one. I have a rerooted Mame Momoko head on an Obitsu body I need to photograph, too.
* Non Fabric Clothing: Tissue paper dress!

(Stuff in blue is what I’ll try in the future. Decals and a 3+ hybrid body. I already have the decals, so that will happen much sooner.)

MLP, Sailor Moon Rement, SSC Knock-Off, BE Goths, Miniature Food, Romantickle Jungle

Bleh. The stores are pretty dry when it comes to new MLP right now. TRU had a poster, though Applejack was missing from it :< C’mon, Hasbro! I get that Rainbow Dash, Twilight and Pinkie are your “main three” or that you sometimes leave out Rarity and AJ. But JUST AJ? Double :<

Sailor Senshi no Nichijou Re-ment set photos are out! I don’t find them that exciting but they are a nice, solid set of props. They would be PARTICULARLY good in photos if you paired them with some dolls of the characters.

Huh! Darice made Dress Me dolls and there were a lot of Strawberry Shortcake wannabes produced but I didn’t know Darice did a SSC-like Dress Me doll. Neat that they actually scented it!

Back in 2003, I REALLY wanted the Bleeding Edge Goth fashion dolls. Goth fashion, colored hair… they were amazing to me. Well, I couldn’t get them, due to not being able to order online, but that may not be a bad thing. Yeah, I guess they melt and discolor.

I mean, I guess the storage method could have been at fault but it wouldn’t be the first time a doll/toy has degraded over time. Regrind spots on legs, where some brands reused plastic. Green spots on Darci arms from the inside wires. The glue issue with MH and other Mattel dolls. Hell, the hair on the Strawberry Shortcake dolls they made in 2003 can become so brittle it BREAKS OFF AT THE SCALP. Yikes.

I am not into Fashion Royalty so I had no idea that they had switched switched plastics for the body at one point, only to have fans complain the better quality plastic “felt cheap”. So FR put a metal hex nut inside to weight it. OMG! XD

I was at the library when I spied Miniature Food Masterclass by Angie Scarr on the shelf. Some of it is probably going to be beyond my skill but I can totally try some of the less complicated stuff. Olivies are do-able and I wanna try the sliced banana cane and satsumas. Something that puts me off some of the ideas, though, is that they use real food items like semolina in them. I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t worry so much. Maybe keeping them bagged up when they aren’t in use, along with any varnish, would be enough to keep them in good condition?

Angie Scarr’s site sells the food premade, as well as premade canes. She also has a YouTube account with video tutorials.

Hmm…I should probably grab up some leaves, now that it’s Spring, and make my own custom molds for putting veins on things.

I’m not really a fan of Pooyan’s cat and bunny dolls but check out this frog woman! She has such a sweet face ❤ The kimono makes the body look a bit larger, but you can see a white version in lingerie here.

New Sparrow Innovations Miniatures

Sparrow Innovations Miniatures

Okay, so I mentioned before that Sparrow Innovations had new miniatures in Michael’s but didn’t list them on their site. I went in and got a few cellphone shots of the section and tried to compile a list of whatever looked new (I made a few mistakes)

Sailor Moon Re-Ment, Boiling Sculpey, New Flickr Search

DUDE! I had no idea Re-Ment was doing 1/6 scale Sailor Moon-themed miniatures. I mean, I guess I should have seen it comming but didn’t think of it until I saw the preorder for the Sailor Senshi no Nichijou Box Set on J-list. Argh, I want to see PICTURES! “Studying with Ami” will probably be pretty straight forward, with books and maybe a tiny calculator with a personal touch or something. “Lunch Time with Makoto” will probably involve an epic looking bento with a rose motif in there somewhere. “Visiting a Shrine with Rei” will probably involve a good luck charm, maybe some incense and….a haraegushi? I don’t know. And I can’t begin to guess about what the others could be. “Going Out With Chibiusa”. Where are we going, Cheebs? The park? The arcade? A shop with weird looking stuffed toys?

The Crystal Cafe Sweets set, however, does have photos online.
1. Sailor Moon Parfait: Re-ment knows that real food is imperfect. I like that they remember to make stuff like those cookies just sloppy enough to look real.

2. Sailor Mercury Soda Jelly: I don’t fnd the jelly that exciting looking, it’s the plate that draws my eye. A light fruit tart and chocolate chess pieces? PERFECT to represent Ami :3

3. Sailor Mars Tea Set: I think this one is the low point of the set.Themed cookies and a tea set. Meh.

4. Sailor Jupiter Cherry Pie: My favorite. The pie looks amazing and…is that an oak leaf on the crust? If it is, it’s an amazing Sailor Jupiter-themed detail to sneak in. The rose and lightning cookies are a nice touch and the drink is pretty. Wait…green liquid in a crystal goblet…girl, you drinking ABSINTHE? O_O

5. Sailor Venus Pancake Plate: Admit it: A mandrin orange slice (peach?) is probably the cutest way to add Artemis’ forehead moon to a pancake.

6. Afternoon Tea Set: I like the display stand and wee tongs.

7. Chibiusa A La Mode: Cute little pink drink with a heart shape curly straw. A fork shaped like her time key. Ice cream shaped like Luna P and Chibiusa’s head, with strawberrys for the buns and pink spritz cookies for the pigtails. So danm precious.

8. Romance Couple Cake: I am a sucker for a nice doll sized cake dome. And those little figures of Usagi and Mamoru* are just perfect.
(*Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask? Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion? I honestly can’t tell from the photos. It’s the dumpling headed main character and her love interesst, in any case.)

Speaking of miniatures, to hell with boiling Sculpey. It turns out it wasn’t my imagination, it really does make it much weaker. Yeah, you don’t have to worry about it browning or giving off fumes but this poster, Fizbin, estimates it reduced the strength by about 1/2. Sculpey III, AKA “The Colored Stuff”, is already weaker than Super Sculpey and MUCH weaker than Milliput. You wouldn’t really want to make that worse.

Flickr has tweaked it’s search again. Now you can limit your search based on colors. One little bonus to the “black and white” option is that most people use full color when they are showing off doll clothing based on a pattern. So, if you search “doll pattern” but say you want black and white only, more of your results will be the actual patterns people are making available. Check it out!

Starlight Glimmer, Power Ponies, New Sparrow Miniatures, Magic Glos Discontinued?

One positive about Starlight Glimmer’s hairstyle is that, when I reroot the upcoming toy, I can dodge a lot of the holes that will be damaged by removing the stupid glued-in ribbon. A proper mint colored nylon doesn’t really exist but I am thinking mixing some (Un?)Lucky Clover in to Daiquiri Ice might work.

The Power Ponies are Target-exclusive and Canada just lost their Targets. Maybe they will turn up in another shop? “Exclusive” stuff has before. I guess I didn’t really NEED Mistress Mare-velous, though I still kind of wanted her for the Applejack herd.

Sparrow Miniatures has new stuff in Michael’s. Camera, beer mug, wine bottles, telephone, pitchers of lemonade, juice, and more. Maybe I should have taken a quick snapshot so I’d remember. The site doesn’t list anything but the usual line, though the blog has projects that used the winter themed line. A lot of it is too small for 1/6 but some of it will work.

A few items in the regular section have also been discounted. I bought the mini potted cactus but the ceramic house, beehive and scarecrow weren’t things I could use and the notepad/pencil…well, I can make one of those.

Speaking of Michael’s, Magic Glos UV resin is on clearance. I hope something will replace it. It’s a neat product to mess around with. I like that humidity isn’t an issue like with regular resin.

Welcome to the New Blog! <3

I joined Blogdrive on November 3rd, 2003 and made 507 entries between then and March 12th, 2015. 11 Years and 4 months in the same place, averaging out to one entry every 8 days. It recieved 36,137 visits I considered moving the doll blog a few times, usually because the service being down. I stayed, mostly out of sentimentality. The Blogdrive edition even outlived my Geocities doll site by 6 years.

What is the straw that broke the camel’s back? My account has been disabled.
You've Got To Be Kidding Me
No e-mail and, as of this writing, no response back. It’s been a week. That says to me that maybe it’s time to pull up stakes.

I have been going through my doll collection and donating or adding to the sales bin the dolls that just don’t do it for me anymore. This isn’t me “growing out of” the hobby, why would I make a new blog account if I was? It’s just a change. Casting out the junk to make more room to enjoy what I have, as well as future purchases.

Like-wise, I have gone through my Blogdrive entries and made copies of anything that I decided had some sort of value. A lot of old entries were just information that was useful when it was relevant but boring and useless now. Some of it was just me complaining or asking questions. From the original 507, less than 200 were actually worth saving to repost. So, let’s get to reposting!

“WTF is a ‘scurf’?” or I Cleaned Raw Mohair

So, I bought some mohair, from, for rooting/making wigs. As well as the little package of yearling hair that was already fairly clean (1oz), I also got a bag of raw fleece from a slightly older goat (3oz). It was the same price for 3x the fleece and I was pretty sure I had cleaned mohair before so why not?

I open the bag and the smell fills the room. A smell that says “welcome to my barn”. Uh…I think maybe the mohair I had bought before, that I thought was raw, may have been at least a little cleaned. Or maybe it was because it was a smaller bag? It didn’t smell anywhere this powerful.

I start washing it in a little bucket. Every time I wet a bunch, the smell gets worse. The middle photo shows what it looked like after the initial wash to get the worst of it off. But…there was this flakey white stuff that wasn’t comming out with soap and water…

I learned a new word. “Scurf”. Basically, goat or sheep danderuff. I guess this batch came off some really flakey goats? I looked up what to do about it and someone suggested using a dog slicker brush to get it out. I happened to already have some so I tried it and it worked well.

The last photo shows the mohair after it was cleaned. I lost A LOT to the process, mostly to the de-scurfing. There were the clean locks but the hair that pulled away with the scurf was all coated with it and….brr. Nasty. How much did I lose? About 50%. I still came out ahead, price-wise, and the locks are now so beautiful that I feel I should save them for something special. But, I don’t think I’ll do it again, unless I get a really, REALLY amazing deal. The extra half ounce isn’t worth the smell and the goat flakes.

MLP, Lottie Finn, Frozen, TMNT, Decendants, Custom Hujoo Amie

Upcomming brushable wave is more or less the usual except for the App codes and what is either a hair stripe printed with their cutie mark (a la the Wild Rainbow brushables) or a piece of ribbon. I hope it’s hair so it doesn’t follow in the foot steps of the ones that had full areas of their hair done in tinsel. There is also that BRAND NEW CHARACTER (WOOP WOOP!) in the picture. The general consensus is that she’s the unicorn from the Season 5 trailer.

The new Water Cuties will only have the snowglobe gimmick in their wings. Eee…might give them a miss.

The NY Toyfair display of the Apple family BB sets looks amazing. I love that they did a nice background and even put up little extra trees and picket fences ❤

Lottie has a male friend now! Finn :3 Here he is next to a Licca. I wonder if anyone will repaint him to look more like a Licca character?

The new Mattel Frozen dolls look SO MUCH more like that characters than the previous ones. Crazy amount of improvement. But…I thought I heard that Hasbro was taking over the Frozen line? Maybe not?

Playmates is doing a pizza-themed butterfly Rapheal TMNT toy. I…assume it makes sense in context.

Mattel is doubling up on the whole “children of fairytale characters” thing. In addition to Ever After High, they are doing the dolls for the upcomming Disney movie, Decendants. Mmmm, articulated bodies.

QueenOfSquids is moding a Hujoo Amie to be a fox girl. Anthro dolls. *_*

The line up for the BB Wave 13 has been confirmed. It’s mostly translucent and glitter of characters we have already gotten so I’ll be giving most of them a pass. The chase figures are Candy Apples, Mosely Orange, Apple Bottoms, Lavender Fritter and Apple Bumpkin. “Chase” being a word that means “Lon can’t have”. And, honestly, I’m not super broken up about it, except for Apple Bottoms. :< Maybe I can keep an eye out for the other ones and trade with somebody?

PlaySkool Pony Friends. OMG. They are adorable! And, DUDE! Minty and Moondancer! I thought for sure that the Minty was just a discolored Fluttershy because I read the article.

So, Tirxie, Rarity and Buttonbelle (WTF? Suri Polomare in the show.) are the line up for Wave 2 of the Charm Wings ponies. The Water Cuties will be Blossomforth, Rainbow Dash and Lily Valley. Might get Suri but I don’t know about the Water Cuties. It will depend on what they look like.

My interesst in the Friendship Games dolls is mostly as spoilers to the new characters in the upcomming movie. They definitely look a lot better than the first ones, though.

MLP: Amazon, London Toy Fair, Dia De Los Mueros? and Fakies

As hush hush as the London Toy Fair 2015 pony display runners wanted to be, a lot of the stuff isn’t actually news. We already have stuff like the Charm Wings in the stores and others, like CMM Sunset Shimmer, will be in soon. The new stuff seems to be the plushies, Pop Big Mac, the castle, Rarity’s boutique (?),  the Friendship Games EQD dolls, whatever that golden Pop toy is and a look at the Coco Pommel FS. The photos are blurry, though, given that they aren’t even supposed to exist.

I kind of wish we had someone on the inside with a notepad, who could record names of products. Even with fairs where they fully allow nice sharp pictures, the cards in front aren’t always visible so we don’t find out the new character names until much later.

Some are saying they can see a possible Maud brushable, but it’s most likely the Water Magic Rarity. I’d love if they actually need a Maud, though.

Funrise is doing more plushies. I dislike the “ribbons of fabric” hair that their toys have but I approve of how easy they are to aquire. Big Mac, Apple Bloom, Bon Bon/Sweetie Drops, Trixie, Scootaloo and Derpy/Muffins/Bubbles (whatever) are the new ones they are doing. 😀

Upcomming MLP toys will have QR-type codes that link to an app. WTF? They appear to be printed in really visible places. Why not under a hoof, like the magnets G3 had? I don’t want black muck all over my ponies…and the black may or may not leave a stain when it’s removed.

So, it looks like we may be in for a  Dia De Los Muertos-themed set with Cadance, Helia, Lotus and Lavender Honey in it. I am not feeling it. I like the concept but the black feels too stark against the pastel ponies, Helia in particular. And, damn it, I want REGULAR versions of the new characters.

MLP Fakies/ Princess Dolls
Dollarama has new G3.5 styled fakies in. I won’t be buying any of them but it facinates me that they would do both a banged and bangless version of each color. Particularly with Hasbro only doing bangs on SOOPER SPECIAL brushables now due to cost. The fake MLP around here always seem to be more or less a generation behind, even though G4 fakes exist in many places. I wonder if there is something about copyright where the stores won’t bring in a fake that looks too much like what’s on the shelves in toy stores.

Weird Dream, MLP blind bags, Dr. Hooves Pop, Vi and Va, Frightmares

Christmas was spent sweating and trying to sleep off sick. Had a lot of weird dreams.

In one, my brother was looking for a roommate that collected something. Figurines, ponies, fursuits, anyone who wouldn’t take issue with a BJD. I asked him which one he was thinking of getting and he pulls put a big box. The doll is about 4 feet tall, with dark brown hair and eyes. I notice the smallish boobs and say something randomly about him getting a female doll. He is quite surprised. The seller had listed it as a male doll. I suggest maybe the head sculpt was originally male and  consider offering to mod the torso.
The rest of the dream involved me trying to look up the sculpt on my phone, while looking for tools to put together the little 1/6 resin animal that my brother had received as a bonus when he bought the doll.  (In real life, my brother doesn’t actually care about dolls…)

Wave 13 Blind Bags?Good chance that these are either fake or legit mixed with fake, on account of the unicorn Twilight. They are actually my least favorite type of blind bag, anyway. I really prefer flat plastic and painted, followed by painted hair with glitter. Metallic is neat for a few figures, though I wouldn’t want a whole wave. Glow In The Dark is something I’d like to see again, but not a full wave. The mostly-clear-with-glitter ones? Well, I totally would want the Lyra and any favorites but I’d probably pass on most. I got my fill with Wave 7.

Sunset Shimmer and Dr. Hooves Hasbro Pop? Wow. Dr. Hooves is a really weird choice. He is a character that is an adult fan favorite and the Pop line is extremely kid-targeted. Shining Armor would probably have better success with the kidlets, if they needed a boy pony. Even Big Mac would be a better bet.

Vi and Va. The art is cute but I was disappointed in how much I didn’t love the doll photos. I’ll reserve final judgment for seeing them in person but the huge eyes look out of place on the sculpt.
If that set IS Quincenera themed, good for them for it. Between the amount of Mexican/Mexican-American customers and the fact that it would give them an excuse to put the doll in a big fancy dress, you’d think more companies would jump on it. I wonder if it’s because it would involve pinning an “ambiguously brown” doll down to a specific heritage that they don’t. Though, it’s not like there haven’t been enough lines where the place the character cones from is part of the story. Huh.

The Fright-mares…I was excited about a centaur line but they look awful. The articulation has been majorly downgraded from Avea. Why? They have the molds. :C I certainly hope the prices reflect it.

New AAMM Poll: Best MLP Line of 2014?

Rainbow Rocks Dolls and Equestria Girls Collection: As I’ve said before, the EQG dolls fall flat for me. They need a better headsculpt with paint that’s closer to the actual movies designs and jointed bodies should be standard on everything but the bargain dolls.

Ponymania: Best item? That sweet Photo Finish with FABRIC DRESS. Middle? Talking Crysalis. The socks are too much but the voice chip is more in character than the big Nightmare Moon’s and…dude! Chrysalis! The bottom? The multi-pony set. Trying too hard to be all cool and goth or whatever.

Rainbow Shimmer Ponies (snowglobe): I like the idea but the hair is too bright and neon-y and it spoils the (otherwise neat) effect.

Breezies: Rainbowfied brushables with a plastic locket and a single breezie. Yawn.

Hasbro Pop: NO. I mean, I like the idea of the toy but the result is kind of cheap.

Wave 10 Blind Bags: I liked these. I’ve said before how beautiful I felt that glittery Gilda was. Just not enough to give my one vote to the wave.

First Cutie Mark Magic Merch: I’m going to assume this means the dangling Magic Charm Wing toys, glowing Rarity and the Sunset Shimmer and Cadance Fashion Styles. Nope. The former and too gimmicky for me and the latter are kind of…meh. The most promising CMM toys for me are the upcomming brushables that will be more a 2015 item.

That brings us to two last ones…
Rainbow Power Neon Brushables: The hair streaks and extra markings make them not just a repackage of old stock and they even had Cheerilee, who we haven’t seen in a little while, and BRAND SPANKING NEW Holly Dash!

Wave 11 Blind Bags:
I have expressed my love of this wave recently, no need to rehash. I was divided between voting for this and the brushables while writing this but, ya know, I think I have to vote for this one. With those new/less-used molds, it’s just better.

Toys R US…wow. I expected it to have a lot of bare shelves since tomorrow (well…today) is Christmas Eve. Nope, everything was lovely and full of new-to-me swag. They had Photo Finish, Shadowbolt Dash and the talking Queen Chrysalis toys marked down. PF and SD were $8….that’s so crazy. They had the Ponymania Favorites set (no me gusta.), the Charm Wings ponies and the Squishy Pops ponies, both in regular version and blind capsule version.

I bought 5 of the capsules because they were cheap. I hoped for an Applejack, a Rarity, an Apple Bloom, Lyra and Bon Bon. That was the best case scenario. Worst case? 5 Fluttershys. So, I opened my first capsule….no pony. Just a charm with Fluttershy’s CM and a bead. I opened another…Twilight. Maybe the first was defective. Opened another, TWO BEADS. Next, Rarity, then, a single bead. Are you kidding me? I thought, from the photo, that each one came with a pony, a bead and the charm. Apparently NOT. Color me underwhelmed.

The Monster High Section had the exchange students. I am not interested in owning them but I think it’s neat how they actually bothered to make a new mold for Marisol’s feet 😀 Though…I wonder if there are any other brands she can borrow shoes from.

I also have no use for ponies that come with Breezies so it allowed me to snag a couple of the creepy little things for less.

Wave 6 would be second, I supose. It had ~stallions~ and regular versions of the glittery characters in Wave 4. I dig Cherry Spices, so it was nice to see her make a return, and the 3 with translucent cutiemarks were neat.

Gummy and Dog!Spike are awesome. I just don’t want the dolls they are accessories to. ~la sigh~ I kind of wish they would pack them like LPS toys.

Check out the fakie set with the eyes on the wonk. I wonder if they stole molds or grabbed up factory rejects to shove into boxes. The Rarity fake is pretty…apart from the hair growing out of her neck. I actually think those colors would have worked better for the Rainbowfied Rarity’s leg…kind of Spring-y.

Yay! A local Walmart had the Rainbow Rarity and Holly Dashes in, along with the FS Daisy Dreams. But, to give you an idea of how bad quality control was with this batch, I started with three Raritys and two HDs in my hands. I left with a single HD, whose defects won’t matter when I am finished and no Rarity. Those four ponies all had misprinted eyes, scratches in the paint or big dirty spots. Wow…

There was a $6 deal on the three years of digital version of Haute Doll during Black Friday so…I subscribed. I’d love to have physical copies but it’s just too much money, given the shipping and the fact that not everything has articles that are relevant to my dolls.

So, I just got my first digital copy, The January/Febuary 2015 issue. I need to give it a read later but here are the things that stand out:

* 1/6 Suitcase-making tutorial
* Maribel Dias’ Blythe photos
* Short tut on faceups by Face-ups By Tory
* The pattern is a “corset” that is actually more like back-lacing halter top. They don’t actually SAY what doll it’s for…16″? The model looks Tyler-y.
* Article on recast BJD and suggestions on how not to get scammed.

Sometimes, I wonder how my Bratz collecting would have been effected if Mattel had skipped My Scene and gone straight to Monster High and EAH. I would have still collected them but I think Mattel could have gotten more of my doll budget. There were dolls I probably would have passed on if I had had the option of a Toralei put in front of me. I might have even hybridized Bratz with EAH to keep a similar shape but have the joints. Though, if Mattel had moved that way, MGA might have done jointed Bratz sooner, anyway.

I was looking for better shots of the Rainbow Rocks themed headphones and came across these. I had no idea they made MLP radios and cassette players back in the 80’s! I had actual ponies, peel off nailpolish and a bath project set, but didn’t know about the extra merch back then. They need to reissue these. Except, make them play CDs or loadable with Mp3s or something, since no one really plays tapes anymore.

So, those cruddy EQG dolls are actually A LOT larger than I thought. I figured they were going to be little mini things but they are about regular size. $7? Eh…need to knock a few bucks off that. After tax, that’s a little too close to $10. They look better than  the first photos but they certainly aren’t worth that much. :/

Spotted a single Twinkle Toes MiWorld accessory pack. I passed on it because I didn’t know if the little sneakers could be modded into anything I could use. I kind of wish they had the Mrs. Field ones in stock.

The latest Novi Star assortment has a deer girl! :O I don’t know if I want one but something about her wee antlers makes me very happy ❤ I wonder if it’s just the antlers that are fuzzy?
Frostina seems like a cross between Mallie and Una, gimmick-wise. Carmela is a sweets themed Ari or something with her coloration.

Another tie-in I would have bought would have been if they had done a three pack with the Dazzlings as ponies, like you see on doll boxes. Oh well.

I found myself a Ponymania Photo Finish at TRU. I still don’t get why she has so much black in her hair and, if they are every on clearence, I would totally buy a second to reroot. But, other than that, she’s nice. When I get a sec, I’ll wash her mane and tail and even up any uneven parts. Her dress is neat, just because it’s more like the vintage Ponywear in it’s construction than any other dress/cape thing that has come with a G4 brushable to date.

Bought the Elements of Harmony and Soaring Pegasus sets online. They were massively other priced but I am happy to have them. Still can’t believe they actually rolled with “Steve Magnet” XD

Huh. I thought I blogged about the Charm Wings Honey Rays toy. Guess not? They are a little like the Glimmer Wings, in that they have HUGE plastic wings stuck on, but this time, they do pop off and they have little pegs on them to hang charms on. Yikes. Dash and Fluttershy will also be in the line but Honey Rays is the one I am interessted in. I am looking at her and wondering A. will they put out a regular brushable of her and B. could something be constructed to fit in the slot that would give her regular wings?

In the same vein as the Raimbow Shimmer snowglobe-type princesses, they are also doing the Water Cuties, containing Rarity, Diamond Mint and Pinkie Pie. A big sigh of relief because they still refer to glitter filled WINGS and I was worried they would have huge gimmick wings like the above Charm Wings toys. I will probably skip the princesses but grab Rarity (Rarity collection.) and Diamond Mint. I wonder if they can withstand hot water for styling? With Hasbro reusing the eyeprints all the time, having the characters look different really falls to the coloring and the styling.

I would have picked up Sterling, but they only had one and she had a scratch on her cutiemark.

Saw the MiWorld photo booth and drink vending machine. They are pretty awsome and I am happy MiWorld is still being made but….please make more add-on packs. The larger sets are more expensive while also being majorly not my scale.

Target had new pony stuff in, including the Wild Rainbow singles.  I was thinking…there isn’t really any way you can style their hair without distorting the patterns printed on it.

So, Hasbro is going to make new EQG dolls that look like Happy Meal toys. Wow…that’s…pretty bad.

How to Make Doll Designer Headphones:Welp, time to go buy some cheap bubble solution. Summer is ending so there should be somewhere clearing it out. Shampoo bottles are a year round crop but, unless it’s a probably boring colored travel one, it probably won’t be small enough for a 1/6 head. I also think that pre-making a pattern might be a better idea than trying to trace buttons and rubberbands directly on to the plastic.

Confessions of a Doll Collectors Daughter pointed out a while back (didn’t see it untill now) that Mo Hayder’s book Poppet has a Pipos Baha on the cover! :Oow about that?

Okay. Let’s say you have no issues with recasts. Why Coco Tribe, whose dolls are very inexpensive for bjds?  We aren’t talking $300 Volks dolls here. A nude, unpainted Amber doll on the 17cm body with no special resin color is $135. How much cheaper could a bootlegger churn it out for and still maintain some kind of quality?  What’s next….Bobobie/Resin Soul recasts? Buying a recast CT doll to “save money” doesn’t even begin to make sense.

And it takes money to buy dolls and casting supplies. They wouldn’t do it unless they figured there was a demand and money to be made. CT is obviously doing well enough to continue making dolls but you don’t see many posts talking about them or photos posted. Where is this market for fakes coming from?

With the quality that they are, that is the MOST you should spend on them. They look cute when they are on the doll but for $20 you could either have legit Takara Licca clothing or a handmade one in quality materials.

Slapping a “BJD” or “Blythe” label on something and marking it up is pretty common. Cheap Barbie shoes can become a $6 Blythe pair with a wave of the magic wand. Furniture for a budget American Girl-style doll? Sell it for more and say it’s SD stuff! Blythe and BJD dolls are already spending more for their dolls than they would on a playline toy from Walmart and are more likely to spend extra money getting nice things for their dolls. I’m not saying people shouldn’t use those doll types as keywords when they apply but some times it’s REALLY obvious when they are trying to get into those deeper pockets.

I think the thing to do is try and be knowledgeable about what you’re buying. If you aren’t looking for a particular brand, try searching things like wig measurements insted of only your doll’s specific name (5-6 vs “Lati”) and find out which dolls take the same size and see what’s on offer under their names. Measuring the feet on your doll might help you snag shoes that aren’t made for your doll but fit anyway. Smart shopping! ❤

Also, I may have said this before but I’ll say it again: When buying little bits and bobs for dolls off Ebay, check Suntek first. Sometimes people buy stuff from them and resell. I haven’t seen anyone try for a 20x mark up, but isn’t it nice to get it a bit cheaper? Sometimes Suntek will be sold out, though, and the Ebay sellers provide a second source to pick it up.

I wish I still had my Nakoma doll from Pocahontas. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find one at a thrift store. I’d love to rebody her.
I had no idea they did an Yzma doll!
….I also didn’t know they made a car for Tiana.

This Alice is amazing. She kind of reminds me of the Misaki dolls.

I think it will go the same way was the CAM Design Lab. It seems more fool-proof than wrangling transfers into the right places but if will probably also be even more expensive.

LIVE NUDE MINOTAUR!! Er, in case you were wondering what that Manny doll looked like under there. I am really impressed that they went to the trouble of making new molds for him. They will probably never use those again, right? If they do, it will probably be in some sort of pack. He looks like he can wear regular MH boy or Barbie-sized pants. For the shirts…could he squeeze into Ken’s? Or maybe he’d have to go straight to action figure gear.

A tutorial on how to do finger waves for a doll. Ahhh. It’s as simple as bobby pins and drinking straws. See, I was thinking of some complicated rig with small sticks of Sculpey strung together. I will have to keep this in mind the next time I consider finger waves. Also, keep an eye out for different straw types.

I never mentioned that I was finally able to get the MH cat twins, did I? This area never got the original pack but I spotted the Zombie Shake girls in TRU. Not really a fan of the ponytails. I liked them in theory but they are kind of short. Not in the mood to start rerooting them but if they go all sticky and gross on me, I am foresee them being rerooted longer.

Did I mention I will be keeping an eye out for the Gil and Deuce set? I will. We had the multi-doll Dance Class pack here but I wasn’t buying it for ONE DOLL. A two pack is a bit more manageable. Fiiiish boy.

Everytime I read a tutorial or see a video where somebody suggests you can cut corners by using nailpolish instead of paint and/or sealent, it makes me want to say something. I don’t want to be one of those people who’s already butting in to correct people but…guis…plz. Here’s a Tumblr post about it.

The owner’s manual that came with a SWITCH BJD doll. Go on…give it a look. It’s a bit more interessting than a restringing guide.

I don’t know if anyone else has ever noticed this but blue doll eyes tend to mostly be a purple-toned blue. Blue that’s slightly to the green side just doesn’t seem to be a thing. I thought some tinted Magic-glos in a Pupa Paradise DIY eye blank would work but putting enough in to make it opaque left no room for the lense :/ I could try putting paint insted…hope it doesn’t look too cheap, though.
How are you suposed to secure the lenses in those in a way that won’t show? No instructions online.

And the second nude of the entry: Jafar from Aladdin! That’s what the Disney Store doll’s body was like. Yow.

DollsAhoy did an interessting post on Barbie’s proportions vs. real women. No, it’s not that “SAVE THE CHILDREN!” junk that has been making the rounds for years.

*High pitched noises* Moxie Girlz Ice Cream Bike!! Don’t get me wrong, it’s far too expensive. Like Muff said “Not $35 impressed” but it’s still so cool. I don’t collect MGs but I DO use bodies for reboding and…DUDE! JOINTED KNEES! Then, there’s the bakers, with their wee accessories. Sophia’s tiny cupcakes, Avery’s tiny eggs! OMIGOSH! We don’t really have this line any more, though. Maybe in (expensive!) TRU though. They stock some.

Holly Dash, I just noticed, would need a reroot if I want to have one Rainbow Power and one like in the show. I need to figure out why my most recent reroots have ended up with wonky necks. I used to be able to do it perfectly, now, sometimes, it messes up.

There seem to be two sets of Rainbow Power (sometimes Rainbow-fied) and then Rainbow Rocks . The first set of RP were crap with normal toy and lame tinsel streaks. Then, there’s the ones with rainbow hair and extra markings going up their legs. See how Dash has multicolored thunder bolts? THEN, the Rainbow Power ones that have the cutiemark all over the leg and a version of their cutiemark painted around their eye. (Twilight makes me think of KISS….) These are meant to be pony versions of the characters in the Rainbow Rocks movie, but they don’t have the rainbow hair streaks! Why are there three lines? And why not reuse the 2nd Rainbow Power ponies with new paint for Rainbow Rocks toys so they would have the right hair?

As much as I love Applejack, I may skip her entirely. Not really liking any of the new ones. Probably grab a Rainbow Power Pinkie because I really like how she looks in the illustration and….maybe Rarity? Rarity is my other favorite, though the RP markings are kind of garish. I have the original G4 Skywishes…I wish she matched Ploomette, though. I could really do something like one that did.

Planning to sell your signature main 5 Monster High dolls? Well, they are about to lose a lot of their value. I meam, collecters will still want them but for the people who just want the characters in their signate outfits, they will probably buy the reissues.

The upcomming Haunted MH dolls. I think my favorite is Vandala Doubloons. Her eyes remind me of some of the more dreamy-eyed Jenny dolls. The leg looks a bit odd to me, just because they are trying to combine “ghost” plus “wooden leg” with the translucent orangey plastic. CeriseWolfs pointed out, though, that Vandala will be the first canonly disabled character. There was speculation about if Jane Boolittle was wearing a leg brace but Vandala does in fact have a prosthetic. It pops on and off….maybe if they do fashion packs, hers could come with a matching leg that coordinates with her shoe? Aimee Mullins has worn some amazing ones, if they need any inspiration.

Monster Exchange line. The theory is that Marisol is probably daughter of the Maricoxi. Nice to see more branching past the more well known (in North America) monsters. Nothing wrong with the kiddlets learning something new. Heehee…ShiBOOya. “Japan” doesn’t really lend itself to monster puns so good for them for comming up with that. What else…um…”Ghostsaka?” “ACKinawa”? Eee….no. Maybe not.

They certainly aren’t abandoning Toralei or Catrine, are they? I was kind of worried about Toralei, but she made a come back. Catrine, I figured, was a one shot character but she’s making a lot of appearences. if I had to guess, I’d say Neighthan will be a one-line-wonder but you can never say never, I guess.

I’ve mentioned before I’d like to see a different version of Avea come out later but….know know what? Maybe Ever After High could reuse her body mold! Centaurs aren’t really from a specific “fairy tale” but neither is Cupid. Maybe they could even do a deer-centaur as a “forest friend” for….I don’t know…whichever character might have a deer-girl as a friend. Just give me the deer-girl and I don’t really care how you squeeze her in.

Ah! That’s right! I was looking for the Fashionista Barbie bodies in stores and…a chunk of the newer ones all have minimal articulation. No new ponies, yet. For MH, I saw the Ghoul Sports Clawdeen but anyone else in the shipment had gotten snapped up. I’d like to get a peek at Toralei.

Check out what was posted to Urban Dictionary:
A Japanese ball-jointed doll made out of vinyl.
A lot of BJD-fans buy them as a substitute of those beautiful resin dolls when they don’t have the will to work to afford one; and Obitsu-dolls are often frowned upon in the BJD-community.
“I’ve been waiting soooo long for my Doll-Zone Yue to get home, and guess what was waiting me when I got home from work yesterday? The package!”
“Ohh, cool, he’s pretty. I got an Obitsu, we should totally do a photoshoot together!”
“… Obitsu ‘>_>”

Hey, hypothetical Obitsu-owner, you don’t WANT to be this person’s friend. They look at your doll and judge you for it. They think you’re lazy for not choosing a resin doll. You don’t need ’em, or anybody else in the doll community who “frowns” on them and you for having them.
The ironic thing is that I found the entry when I was looking up Resinsoul photos because the poster had used “Resinsoul” as their nickname. Resinsoul dolls, after all cost a lot less than dolls from big names like Volks and some people automatically see the price and write them off as being “trash”. “Eww, why didn’t you save $400 and get a GOOD doll?” I wonder if the poster realised….

While I wasn’t looking, Bobobie added another anthro doll, named Yue. Leetle fox person, created by an artist named Jessica. They are smaller than the other BBB anthros and use a totally new body.

Dearmine/Zuzu Delf wig pattern! The interessting if is that DM and ZZD take the same 6-7 size in store-bought wigs but the instructions say to sew a larger seem allowence for ZZD. Guess they are slightly different, after all?

Glyndarling’s Dalsoo Senior, Aruni Cookieferret. confessionsofthebjdkind:Fairyland, at most, has 20 employees at any given time. Iplehouse has around 30. Dollshe, well, the guy has his mom string the dolls. Dollstown is 2 people. Asleep Eidolon can barely pay people to sand their dolls. Kinoko Juice is one single artist who does everything on her own. Volks has 100 employees worldwide, but they also do model planes and figures. These are’t big companies. They’re all people, most of them making dolls just for the love of it. That’s why recasts disgust me.

gourmandghast:Supiadolls also has less than five employees. Doll Chateau is an offshoot of Dollzone, but they don’t have very many people, either. Both of these companies have had their dolls recasted.
(Just to add a quick note.)

ciimoore:Last I checked Volks had a grand total of 320 employees. I don’t know exactly how many are in each branch of the company though. Or if this is outdated info…

blindflower:I feel like there was a time where everyone in the hobby knew how small these companies were. Somewhere along the line it stopped becoming common knowledge.
People entering the hobby with a “corporation” mentality and blaise attitude have always confused and bothered me. These aren’t big faceless companies. These are people who are probably never going to be rich off selling these dolls. The amount of work required to produce dolls of a high quality is much more then I think many new hobbyists realize.
These companies need our appreciation and support. Not a slap in the face, which is essentially what purchasing recast dolls is in my mind. Purchasing recasts hurts these companies in a lot of ways I won’t get into now, People think it’s okay because it’s a “company.”
I think what they mean, is that they don’t feel guilty because they’re divorced enough from the consequences they can choose to ignore them. And to be honest? That’s sad, and frightening.

I don’t think it would hurt for a company to emphasis it’s smallness and put a spotlight on the individuals who make the dolls every now and then. “We have five painters. This is Yuko, painting a doll. If you had a doll shipped out to you in the last month, she may be painting YOUR doll in this photo!” How cool would that be?

If companies could get an inside-man on a board where people discuss what they have had recast, I think it could be helpful. No, not to whistle-blow and take legal action. To keep track of what’s buying recast the most and offer an incentive to buy it legit. Is a discontinued doll a hot seller? Bring it back in a new version. “But this doll doesn’t come in the color I want so I’ll get a recast!” If at all possible, put out in more colors. It won’t be 100%, some people will be lying about the reason they were going to buy a recast. But if the money it would cost doesn’t exceed the business that would be pried back, it’s worth a shot, right? A recaster taken down will  probably just be replaced.

Takara made some keychains.

This set included: Elementary School Punpun, Junior High Punpun, High School Punpun, Serious Punpun, Freeter Punpun, The God of Poop and the super secret limited one that is obviously Pegasus’s mascot thing.

This set included:  Elementary School Punpun, Junior High Punpun, High School Punpun, Lying Punpun (?), Missing Punpun (?) and Cosmo-san.

Cospa sold a young Punpun plushie and had one that was 150cm tall.

It’s not a series that would lend itself to racks and racks of branded products but I was kind of surprised that they made as much stuff as they did.

I hadn’t seen all the Usaggie/Jossie one-offs they did. The hula Jossies are spooky but I really like the Jossie done up as the illustration-version Odeco.

Need any Barbie Heads without holes punched? The store has some neat bits and pieces. Some are apparently bought wholesale from Suntek but if Suntek is sold out, it’s another place to check.

I want to see some company just CHURN OUT 1/6 size faux glassware and sell it online, shipping worldwide and not charging a mint. Anything cheap is 1/12, anything 1/6 is expensive or not shipped outside of the US. I’ve probably complained about this before but, whatever. I’m messing around with some UV-cure resin and I’d love to have a bunch of little glasses and bowls to use with it. But $1.00+ for a tiny glass? Really? I’ll be watching a tutorial where they use them and the person will either not give a source or, it’s like, “I used this cute little glasses that you can buy…” Yes? YES?? “In my store.” Ca-ching. :<

Oh, wow. I can see it. One of the replies blame the factory paint for not flattering the sculpt. It’s not the paint, it’s the way the lips are sculpted. Couple that with the long, freaky-deaky limbs and neck and it results in something that a fair amount of people will look at and go “WTF???”

You know what baffles me? Models with cast-off parts. I see the before picture with the figure fully clothed, I see the after picture with the pieces removed so the figure is naked or almost naked. to those pieces work? How do they fit together? The figures don’t always look like they have cast-off parts, can you still switch back and forth once they are removed, even if they are large pieces like a whole sailor blouse? Nobody ever posts phots of the pieces next to the figure.

Still no luck finding small, round glass beads. You can get tiny glass pearls but when it comes to translucent colored beads, they just cut up a tube and call it a day. You’d think there would be some way a machine could make them. :<

TRU had the Pony Lesson and Groovin Hooves sets. Probably overpaid but nobody else has them. -_- Maybe nobody else WILL. Who knows?

Target isn’t doing too well in Canada, apparently. The problem is that they just aren’t competitive enough. There’s a few things here and there that you can’t get elsewhere but mostly it’s the same, maybe even more expensive. I’m kind of disapointed. I had high hopes for them but my entire family has probably spent less than $80 there since they opened. The stock feels like it stagnates too, not much of a turn over, new things either take a while or they don’t come at all. I don’t want them to shut down, I want them to do better.

Wanna see something old?

Flashback: Hair Play and Manga
These pics feature my very first Bratz dolls and terrible lighting. Back in the day. Something I’ve been thinking about is how I wish I could get back a bit of what I had back then. Not in things but just the way I messed around with the dolls.

I watched the first couple of episodes of the 80’s anime Stop!! Hibari-kun! and, while looking for stuff about it, came across a couple custom dolls of the adorable main character. This Hibari-kun uses a Momoko as a base. This one… a Jenny friend? Maybe?

Did I ever post about the Jenny dolls dressed like Wink? It’s a Japanese pop duo from the 80’s. (If you liked W (Double U) with Ai Kago and Nonomi Tsuji from Morning Musume you probably heard their cover of Sabishii Nettaigyo.)

So, I asked a mod at DOA about why CT’s Annie is off topic. The answer was that, with the new rules, all the Amber line is on topic with the exception of any with closed eyes. YAY!

I don’t know if they are bios by Coco Tribe or if Kon Doll wrote them themselves, but they list descriptions for the Amber doll characters:

Ruby: Ruby is the rich family lady. She is kind and refined Rabbit.
Jerry: Jerry is a Doctor .He is the knowledgeable Rabbit
Annie: Annie is a lovely maidservant. Although she is a little dimmed, she is the hard working Mouse.
Micah: Micah is a little baby. The cheese often in his dream.
Coraline: Coraline is madam of the house, She is the sublimate Cat.
Leonard: Leonard is earl, He is the gentleman Cat.
Christine: Christine is a little lady. She is the sleeping beauty Cat.
Patrick: Patrick is the pub owner, also is the funny Pig.
Peter: Peter is the pub waiter. His interest is sleep
Dita: Dita is famous singer. She is the pretty Fox.
Zachary: Zachary is baron. He is the smark Fox.

Nothing for Milo, Ricci or Sunny. What ARE Milo and Sunny, anyway? I originally though Milo was a mouse but I’m thinking mole, now. Sunny is a….chipmunk? Otter? I wonder what the official answers are.

Sweetie Belle with cheetah spots and Scootaloo with tiger stripes. What? :O I wonder what these will be part of. They also have a Wave 10 code list posted at that site. I need to print it out and have it in my bag. I’ve narrowed it down to not TOO many of them. And I need to remember to look for a danm AW Apple Honey replacement before they are no longer on the shelves.

XOXO Hello Kitty Baking Fun Set by Blip

It contains:
* A standing mixer
* A “metal” bowl for the mixer
* Cake plate and dome
* Cake with cake slice
* Egg carton with six eggs. A little tough to open!
* Sugar container
* Cookie jar
* Rolling pin
* “Glass” measuring cup
* Cookie, rolled dough and cutter
* Pie seperates into it’s layers (top crust, berry filling, bottom crust, pan) The bottom crust has a few lumps and bumps, like a real baked pie crust. Nice detail!
* “Metal” cake pan
* Oven mit for the mini figures
* Cupcake pan
* Four cupcakes with detachable icing
* GIFT FROM HELLO KITTY. Mine was a translucent blue mouse. It could be a little glass ornament or even a fancy little molded jelly.

All told, it comes with 37 pieces. It’s kind of like a budget Re-Ment HK set. There is also a Bloom and Grow gardening set but I don’t think it’s quite as nice as the baking set so I probably won’t bother. If they put out something in the next round of toys that’s as nice, I’d probably pick it up.
The set also comes with a little reuseable bag with a draw-string to store your bits and pieces in. Mine split but it’s the thought that counts.

Doll Nerd has a review on the set. Her “surprise gift” was a translucent pink Hello Kitty head. TheCookiinCompany got a translucent pink Hello Kitty head-shaped doughnut and ToyBroadway and ToysTv got the same doughnut but in a pink metalic finish. TheKali10 got a translucent pink HK bow in hers. MNtacular Dolly got that bow, as well.

As far as the other sets in the line, TheHollycopter did a review on a couple and XOXO HK sets and recieved, shocker, the translucent pink doughnut. itsplaytime612 got the same mouse I did in one of her sets. HelloKittySoKawaiiXD got the same doughnut in her gardening set and the blue mouse in the baking one. “Joey” is the name of the mouse! How about that! XD DisneyJuniorJake got the translucent pink bow and and the translucent pink doughtnut with her Watermelon Overload and Rain or Shine figures. ToyCollectorFun got a translucent pink bow in her Garden Tea Party set.

This gets me wondering just how many little secret toys come with them. The translucent pink doughnut is obviously the most common and anything metalic is rarer. But are there other shapes? Or colors? :O Seriously, if you get anything different in yours, lemmie know.

It wasn’t even hair any more. The heat had disolved it down to it’s very elements. You can’t root goo into a doll’s head, so be careful. So, now I have an 11 oz bulk bag. It’s grey, but that won’t matter. Trouble is, most of it is turning out be be way shorter than I expected. “Mostly 4 inches”? Er, more like mostly 3 inches, with some pieces comming in at a single inch long. I SHOULD be able to find at least an ounce of longer locks to do my project, though. It will just take a lot of sorting.

I swear, the things I do to save a buck.

The Facebook said K-Mart, TRU and Target, this article says “Major toy retailers like Toys R Us, Target, Wal-Mart and Kmart have already ordered Pinkie Cooper dolls and will stock them in late summer”. I wonder if Walmart will get them or not.

Another thing about Pinkie Cooper: Something that came up on MLPArena is how she doesn’t really look like an English Cocker Spaniel like a lot of articles say she’s based on, more like a  Cavalier King Charles. SweetScoops brought up English TOY Spaniels and said she had seen them described as that. I Googled both with “Pinkie Cooper” and there are articles that say one, articles that say the other. The Wikipedia entry says that the DOLL is based on an English Toy Spaniel and Carter Bryant’s sister’s dog, who inspired it, is an English Cocker Spaniel. I wonder if it’s that or if maybe somebody got confused (maybe someone more familar with Cocker Spaniels) and wrote it down wrong in an article. Seeing the original dog would help.

A few entries ago, I was theorizing on Pinkie and co.’s body size and wondering if they were maybe a bit larger than MH and more like Bratzilla. You know, I’m not really sure which I would prefer. Part of me wants them to be able to wear all the lovely MH clothing and shoes. It’s not just the stock stuff, there are a lot of people selling hand made outfits and casting new shoes. MH collectors might even buy PC fashion packs for their dolls, or go thirdsies with a PC owner to unload the ear parts.
But then, I also find MH awfully skinny. Visually, I think the PC dolls would be better if they were a bit chubbier than MH.
Pinkie Cooper Shoe Molds (TF and Proto)
Kind of sad, but while I’m waiting, I did a chart with the shoe molds shown on the Toy Fair dolls and in the catalogue prototype pictures. Throw us a bone, Bridge Direct! Give one to a well known reviewer or something. Maybe Confessions of a Doll Collectors Daughter would do it? Oh, you KNOW *I* would. But I barely get hits and I cuss and you know…say thinks a company might not like. I’ll have to wait with the rest of ’em XD.

Scroll down…that last photo. They are doing a Stacie-sized BOY doll. A little wee nerdy-boy who takes his fashion cues from Jackson Jekyl :3

I don’t collect Novi Stars because I find most of them too busy looking. Tily Vision is pretty busy but I like how they are getting creative with their designs.

Alli Gatore by Nerea Pozo, a custom MH Gorgon CAM. I wish they came like this.

I see rebodying opportunities to create anthro fashion dolls. It will be kind of like the LPS hybrids, only these come with rooted hair!

The official YT has the commercials and tutorials on styling the hair. I e-mailed them to ask if they would be available outside of Europe and they said:
“Please note we are launching VIP Pets in Europe in 2013 but US and Canada will be January 2014 only.”
Not bad.

“People who suggest Monster High/Pullip/Blythe/etc as a ‘starter BJD’ drive me fucking mad. They aren’t a ‘low-cost’ alternative’. They aren’t ‘a way to get a feel for BJDs’ they can’t be. They are not fucking BJDs.”
Confessions of the BJD Kind

True that. Those. Dolls. Are. Fashion. Dolls. There is nothing wrong with that. But if you start with them and then go on to BJDs feeling like you’ve practiced all you’ll need, you’ll be pretty surprised. You could totally transfer over the skills you learned about painting on a 3D surface, but at the same time vinyl and resin/anything hard aren’t exactly the same. You won’t be used to stringing or the way the parts fit together, because Blythe has a standard fashion doll body and Pullip and Monster High have jointed, figure-like bodies that fit together with pegs and round joints (though not BALL-joints).
Buy those dolls because you like them, but they aren’t BJDs.

DollsAhoy posted an old Mattel body that I’ve never seen before. Apparently Jazzie had a new body mold. I wish they had used it more because i reminds me of an older version of the 80’s Skipper body.

ThatNanda did another male Novi Stars doll. This one is Ben Gineer 😀

Cake Family Babysitting Fun is the name of the MLP mini figure set that will have Mrs. Cake, Mr. Cake, Pound Cake, Pumpkin Cake, Pinkie Pie and Nurse Redheart. I’m kind of surprised the babies are seperate pieces. I figured they would be a single piece, like the Siamese chipmunks that some of the brushables came with. They will be kind of lose-able, so be very careful!

I was so pissed off. -_- I want my spray.

Picked up some Dupli-color Flat Black Vinyl Paint. I was heading out the door when I noticed that one the teeny tiny label, it said “gloss black”. It must have been pushed into the wrong spot. I was out of time so I have to return it later -_-

PlastiKote Vinyl Paint. Hmm. Now, I wonder about this stuff. I stared into a closed autoshop and saw a can of black, so I Googled it. No rainbow, but there are a few colors apart from black, grey and white AND there is a brown. 😮

In box photos of Raven Queen and Apple White from the Ever After High line that Cupid from MH is being transplanted to. A fair amount of people have wanted to do more human looking MH customs so having a MH-like doll in a wider range of human skintones will be nice for them. I will be curious what they look like in person.

Prototypes of the EQ pony dolls popped up. Ironically, enough, I think Rainbow Dash was actually the prettiest. Lauren Faust’s reaction was…not good. I’m not surprise. She gave each character an individual personality. These dolls reduce everybody to a sparkly makeup-ed, short skirt-wearing girly girl. That’s fine for Rarity and Pinkie, maybe, not not for the rest. On an average day, I can’t imagine Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack or Twilight putting on much more than chapstick. They would just be too darn busy. Dash and Applejack particularly wouldn’t bother putting on makeup because they are so active that they would just sweat it off any. Sure, the EQ girls aren’t actually the ponies, but they are suposed to be human highschooler versions. Keep the makeup natural looking for those four and vary those face prints! Dash should be feisty looking! Fluttershy should look gentle! You can do it, Hasbro! I want to believe! ^___^

Ps. If these things are any larger than a Polly Pocket, NO MOLDED CLOTHING. Seriously, that stuff is terrible.

Sailor Moon figure by S.H.Figuarts (Bandai). Six face plates: winking, smiling, bawling uncontrollably, cranky/determined 1 & 2 and shout-y cranky/determined. 5 pairs of hands, including one with her wand, and luna :3

NEVER underestimate grocery stores with toy sections. Got a tip-off that Super Stores with larger toy sections seem to be getting the 2nd wave of MLP mini figure collections in. The Applejack/Apple Bloom/ Diamond Tiara, Zecora/Pinkie/Lotus and Photo Finish/Hoity Toity/Rarity never made it to regular stores here but SS has them, kind of like they did with the Slumber Party and Cheerilee’s Picnic sets. They are also getting the old Canterlot (Target Only) stuff and had the carded, tinsel haired ponies for Easter when Walmart is JUST getting them.
They also had a single Ice Girl/Blob girl, the Harpy and Siren CAM sets. Yet again, those haven’t appeared in other stores. I would like the Blob girl at some point but not the Ice girl. Maybe at some point I can buy the set and offer the entire doll at cost plus shipping. There is currently a naked and wigless one going for even more so I shouldn’t have trouble unloading her.

Walmart also had the Wave 7 blindbag ponies and the tinsel haired singles. Yay! I kind of hope the BBs hang around a little, so everybody can grab what they want before the next wave. I really hate when items are there and gone quickly. Even worse is when a whole bunch of stuff is dumped and then gone really fast. X_X Gaaah.

lpsstuff’s Blythe/The Enigma of Amigara Fault crossover comic. Makes more sense if you’ve read the horror manga XD

Check out these Christmas Trees with faces :O

A scan from the back of the 6 inch Sailor Moon Adventure Dolls. Oh man, the memories. I used to clip the cards out of every box and kept them in a drawer. Queen Beryl’s age is listed as “29 and holding”. I showed it to my mum. She cackled and said that QB had been holding it so long it had claw marks.

I was reading about mohair vs. alpaca rerooting. Alpaca hair sounded like an exciting new (to me) material, then I got to the part about it being more delicate. WHAT? Nope, nope, nope, nope. Mohair is alread kind of delicate, I wouldn’t want to chance using something described as MORE delicate.

How to Tell If a Toy Is For Boys or Girls. I got a laugh out of it. It’s probably not what you’re expecting XD

ThatNanda’s male Novi Star custom, Eli Tronic. He’s made with a “Generator Rex” action figure body.

I sorted the tail colors as best I could and now she’s chilling in curlers for a couple days, which will keep the colors seperate AND help minimize the frizz I couldn’t fix. Her little glow in the dark pieces in the plastic still glow! That’s AWSOME.

I also ended up comming home with a ridiculous about of 1/6 clothing for less than a fashion pack in a store. I’ve cleaned most of it and just have a few possibly stain-y items, like denim, soaking untill they aren’t giving off dye.
Thrift Store Finds - Whose?
Thrift Store Finds 2 - Whose?

With the Mrs. Cake toy comming out, I did an earring test.
Mrs. Cake Earring Test
These are the 5mm half pearls, hot glued into place. I’m hoping they are large enough. I kind of wondered if I should have gone for the 6mm insted, but there is only so much room on the pony’s ear. Making the test available so people can judge for themselves and decide if they want to go larger 😀

You know when the eyes on a doll are printed a little off? Well…check THIS one out

World Kids: Group Shot
World Kids: India
World Kids: Germany
World Kids: Korea & Arabia
I had always wanted the World Kids dolls so when I spotted a bunch of them on the cheap (well..original price, since they are cheap little dolls), I grabbed these ones. They came yesterday and I grabbed them to take some photos outdoors. Japan, China, Kenya and either Holland or Italy are the other ones I’d like to come across. You can see more of them at Mammy’s Parlor, in the “Other Dolls” section, along with the variants. She lists them as being made by OTAKE-GO, though most places don’t list a manufacturer at all.

Also in the “Other Dolls” section of Mammy’s Parlor, is her collection of the Takara Flower Child dolls. I’ve mentioned them in other entries. It can be tough to find info. The section for them is the section under the one for “Noix De Rome”. She has Flora, Emina, Lyceene, Romeria, Fanny, Angelly (or Angelie) and Julirsia (or Julisha) and Kaderia displayed.

That first one O_O I wonder what that head’s from. Looks rather anime-ish…maybe it looks nicer when the eyes are fully open.

Gothichydran126 recolored a Dollfie Dream with Rustoleum Fabric and Vinyl in “Sand”. Part 1 and Part 2, to have peek!

Another G4 Minty prototype showed up. I really prefer the 1st one but this one is fine too. Except for the black outlines around the symbols. NO NO NO NO. It makes it look cheap. I think Honeybuzz is the only G4 pony who has ever had black in her symbol but hers was a BEE. It just doesn’t look right.

Had another toy shopping dream ^^;;

*Comet Tail (blind bag wave 8) and Royal Riff (blind bag wave 6) had been produced as individual Playful Pony figures. That would be so awsome. My money would be on Comet Tail rather than Royal Riff, though, because they might figure RR’s purpley-grey and white coloring is boring.

*Mini Animal Crossing sets. Each set came with a figure that was a little over half an inch tall and their house. One of the figures was a boar character, which is weird because there is no cute boar villager, only regular pigs. Even weirder was that one of the figures was a tape player-person. Danmit, brain, that’s not even an animal :<

*They had a bunch of Volks Dollfie pattern books. One I was looking at was $6.99 and the other was $16.99. I didn’t have enough to get both, but I noticed the more expensive one had water damage all the way through. It made it wonder if it would be okay to ask for a discount.

Universal Satin comes in White, Black and Expresso (kind of dark for me). Universal Gloss comes in some nice color, though not what I was looking for. White, Arctic Gray, Black, Cardinal Red, Cobalt Blue, Canary Yellow, Hunter Green, Expresso Brown, Sunset Orange, Crimson Red and Slate Gray.
SEM has brown. It’s not very expensive on Ebay, either. Except for the shipping. I’m not paying $33.12 for shipping. That’s just stupid.
Canadian Tire has Dupli-Color, which may or may not work, but the site says BURGANDY only.

VHT Vinyl Dye has a “Buckskin Tan”, but it’s not dark enough.

WHY isn’t there more vinyl paint available in different browns? So many cars have leather or faux leather insides!
